Importance

What is the point of all this?

Well, I personally believe that we should all strive for a large degree of objectivity in our opinions. This contributes to the realm of film greatly. If no one cares whether a film is technically good, then the studios that make movies won't care either. Many feel this has already happened, to a degree. But by being a more informed community, we can ensure that the standard does not lower and is instead maintained by studios that will attempt to meet our needs.

Further, if we are fans of cinema, we only have things to gain by taking this approach. It will help us understand what contributes to things we like in movies and make it easier for us to locate films we will also enjoy. It allows us to communicate to others about film with much less chance of offending someone and with a greater likelihood of having an informative discussion rather than an unhelpful argument.

By understanding film in general more, we are increasing our knowledge of a subject. Learning. We all know that knowledge is power. We all want to be powerful. We can use our knowledge for good.
