Subjectivity

YOUR THOUGHTS?

What did you personally think about a movie? Did you like it or not? Even if a movie involved the most elaborate and impressive objective qualities, it does not mean you have to like it. The issue arises when a distinction is not made. Most people that talk about a movie mean something subjective, but use qualifiers that sound like they are objective. How many times have you head someone say "That was a terrible movie!" or "That movie sucks." Do you think they are referring to the ability of the cinematographer or writer? It is possible, but not likely. Usually, people are not even actively aware of a difference between their reactive thoughts and the ability involved in a film's production, despite what words they use to describe it when asked.

You can't stop yourself from having subjective opinions, nor should you. The whole point of most film is entertainment and that is on a very subjective level. We are human beings, after all. You should have your opinions, but we should try to be aware of the factors contributing to them.
